Engineering Services: Reservoir Simulation

Sproule's experienced reservoir simulation engineers use geological, reservoir, and historical production data to develop reservoir models for production forecasts and ultimate recovery predictions. At Sproule, our clients are not limited to a particular type of reservoir simulator. We have experience in using simulators and pre- and post-processors recognized throughout the industry.

A quality production forecast is essential to a realistic reserve evaluation. Production forecasts are usually obtained through conventional reservoir engineering calculations, particularly decline analysis and reservoir simulation. Reservoirs undergo a series of different depletion mechanisms in life that cause the decline trend to shift, often to the extent that the decline trend is no longer predictable. Using a reservoir model to simulate reservoir behaviour under different operation strategies becomes necessary for forecasting future performance or devising optimum development scenarios to improve recovery.

With the increased accessibility to reservoir simulators, more oil and gas property evaluations are being substantiated by reservoir simulation studies. Consequently, the need to incorporate reservoir simulation and review clients' simulation studies have increased at Sproule. To meet the increasing demand for high quality simulation studies, Sproule created a reservoir simulation department and has experienced reservoir simulation engineers to conduct the work.

We have reservoir engineers on staff that have practical experience conducting simulation studies for different types of reservoirs (light oil, heavy oil, gas, gas-condensate, etc.) operated under various types of recovery schemes. including gas-cycling, water flooding, miscible flooding, thermal (cyclic steam stimulation, steam flooding, and steam assisted gravity drainage), etc.

Our engineers are familiar with simulators and pre- and post-processors recognized throughout the industry, such as Grid, Graf, Eclipse, Exodus, Imex, Gem, Stars, Winprop, and VIP. Since you are not limited to using one particular type of simulator at Sproule, great flexibility exists for converting outdated simulation models, or models obtained due to acquisition, from one simulator to another.

Reservoir simulation is a valuable analytical tool for evaluating reservoir performance for production forecasts and ultimate recovery predictions. A representative reservoir model requires quality input data as well as experience from the operator to guide the history matching process (validation). The study can be conducted at Sproule or at your office using your simulator. Your engineers can participate to whatever extent you wish.

Sproule's professional staff has long been recognized in the fields of geology, petrophysics, geophysics, reservoir engineering, and economics. The addition of a reservoir simulation department allows us to provide additional technical support to supplement our existing services to our clients.
