This comprehensive 5-day course presents the foundational components and techniques of evaluating global oil and gas properties. By the end of this course, participants will fully understand the evaluation process, where to source the appropriate data, how to evaluate an oil and gas property, how to interpret evaluations done by others and, ultimately, how to make sound investment decisions. The course lecture material, which is supported by a number of workshop exercises, culminates with a scenario-based learning experience in which students work in teams and compete for points as they analyze a factual business takeover.
The material covered in the course is very practical, and includes many tips and insights in evaluating wells, groups of wells, properties and companies. Topics include:
- Petroleum geology and geophysics
- Resource and reserves definitions
- Estimating reserves and production
- Probabilistic methods
- Interests and royalties
- Capital and operating costs
- Time value of money
- Profitability indices
- Income taxes
- Oil, gas and product prices
- Use of evaluations
- Class evaluations case study
While this course has a more technical focus related to reserves determination, it is designed for engineers, geologists, geophysicists, land negotiators, accountants, technologists, and anyone who wants to understand the process and results of evaluating oil and gas properties.
