Geoscience for Non-Geoscientists
Hayley Silberg P.Geo.
Geoscientist and Manager, Sproule Training
This 2-day course is an introduction to petroleum geoscience, with a specific focus on how it integrates with petroleum engineering and the techniques of evaluating oil and gas properties. There are a number of in-class exercises to learn through application. By the end of this course, participants will be able to understand industry geoscience terminology and practices, know how to read a well log, understand the benefits and limitations of seismic data, learn how geomodels are made, and understand how geoscience is integrated into the evaluation of oil and gas properties.
- Introduction to the earth as a whole system and the rock cycle
- Stratigraphic geology
- Structural geology
- Petroleum systems
- Reservoir characterization
The applicable and practical material in this course will enable non-geoscientists to understand the role of geology and geophysics in the evaluation process of reservoirs, properties and companies. This course is for engineers, land negotiators, accountants, technologists, and anyone who wants to understand the geoscientific processes and analyses that support the evaluation of oil and gas properties.
